LAG-CLL is a biannual event of the Latinamerican Group on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (LAG-CLL).
The meeting originated in the interest generated by LLC in the region by bringing together basic and clinical researchers, generating teams of translational science for the pathology, both in the biology and in the adapted therapeutic strategies. It has been a formidable platform model for biological-clinical exchanges. The founding presidents belong to three countries of our region: Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina.
In charge of Prof. Guillermo Dighiero, the first meeting, called First Iberian-American LLC Meeting (Ibam CLL) was held in Punta del Este, Uruguay from 15 thru 17 November 2013. The second LAG-CLL was held in São Paulo, Brazil, on 23-24 September 2016 and was presided by Dr. Carlos Sergio Chiattone. The 3rd LAG-CLL meeting was carried out in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 30 and 31 August 2018, presided by Dr. Fernando Bezares. The fourth session, held during the pandemic between 20 and 21 May 2022, had its organizational headquarters in São Paulo and was 100% virtual, and was presided by Dr. Carlos Sergio Chiattone.
Fortunately this fifth LAG-CLL will be in person once again on 21-22 November 2024 in Punta del Este, Uruguay, with the purpose of bringing together the international experts and the hematologists of the region in person, promoting the exchange of information and fostering collaboration between international leaders, medical practitioners and regional scientists interested in LLC and in lymphoproliferative disorders. We shall address the state of the art in the biology and treatment of LLC, highlighting the outstanding elements arising from the international biannual meeting of the XX International LLC Workshop to be held in October 2023 in Boston, USA.
This event differs from conventional congresses in that it is organized jointly with the IWCLL central committee, an entity that gathers the most relevant international leaders in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. In this way it allows direct and close contact between the experts and hematologists of the community, not only for scientific updating but also for the discussion of the peculiarities of diagnosis and treatment in the real LATAM world, and for the creation of international development projects where the continent may show its prominence, so often postponed.
I would like to highlight the special opportunity for outstanding regional scientific biologists who work in laboratories and basic sciences in the region to meet in person with representatives from international research groups to discuss and generate joint projects.
CLL is the most frequent leukemia in the western world and a great part of the countries of the southern cone of Latin America, and it will be an excellent opportunity, not to be missed, to return to face-to-face exchanges between the international experts and the hematologists and scientists of the region.
For the authorities of the national and regional organizing committee as well as for the authorities of the scientific committee, it will be a great pleasure to welcome you to our headquarters at the Punta del Este Convention Center and to share moments of professional and social exchange that we hope will be unforgettable.
